Fran French, Mersea Week Chairman stepping down.

Published 11:48 on 8 May 2026

After three years serving as Chairman of the Committee, and more than 20 years of involvement with Mersea Week across both sailing and social events, I have made the difficult decision to step down from my role.

This has not been easy particularly given how much Mersea Week means to me and to so many of you. I am, however, no longer able to give the time and commitment the role requires.

The club Committees have been actively trying to find a replacement Chairman but, despite best efforts, no successor has yet come forward. This leaves Mersea Week in a very uncertain position. Quite simply, without someone stepping into this role, the event cannot go ahead in its current form.

Mersea Week has always been a highlight of the sailing calendar and a fantastic social occasion for both DSC and WMYC. It would be a real loss to see it not take place.

I truly believe, that there is a successor, someone who can ensure that this established event continues in our sailing calendar. I am more than willing to support anyone who is prepared to take on the role, and to help with the smooth transition and continuity.

If you value Mersea Week and would like to see it continue, please consider stepping forward or speaking to a member of the Mersea Week or your club Committee to find out more.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years—it has been a privilege and an honour to be involved.
