DSC Sunset Series 2027
Join the Dabchicks SC Sunset Series!
Adventure, friendship, confidence and sailing skills... all on summer evenings and selected weekends.
The Dabchicks Sailing Club Sunset Series is our popular programme of 12 to 14 sailing sessions running from May through to July. Designed for young sailors aged 8 to 18, the series provides a fun, safe and supportive environment where children can learn to sail, improve their skills, enjoy racing and build lasting friendships.
Whether your child dreams of becoming a competitive racer or simply loves being on the water, the Sunset Series offers an enjoyable pathway into a sport that can be enjoyed for life.
Why Join?
Whether your child is completely new to sailing or already has experience on the water, the Sunset Series provides the opportunity to:
- Learn to sail in a friendly and encouraging environment
- Build confidence and independence
- Develop seamanship and racing skills
- Make new friends and become part of club life
- Experience the excitement of sailing on the River Blackwater
Most importantly, it is about having fun, building confidence and creating a lifelong love of sailing.
Who Is It For?
The series is open to Cadet Members of Dabchicks Sailing Club aged 8 to 18.
Most young sailors begin their journey in Optimists, the ideal dinghy for learning the fundamentals of sailing. As their skills develop, they can progress into a variety of classes, including:
- Optimists
- Toppers
- ILCAs
- RS Fevas
- Picos
- 29ers
Sailors are grouped according to their experience and ability, ensuring everyone can learn and progress at a pace that suits them.
A True Family Activity
The Sunset Series is run entirely by volunteers and relies upon the support of participating families.
Every cadet must have an adult club member present before, during and after the sailing session. Parents play a vital role both ashore and afloat, helping to create the welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere that makes Dabchicks so special.
No previous sailing experience is required from parents. There are plenty of opportunities to become involved and learn alongside your children.
New to Sailing?
Our beginner programme is primarily aimed at children aged 8 to 9, although older children are very welcome.
If your child is interested in learning to sail and falls outside this age range, please get in touch. We can help identify the most suitable route into sailing and ensure they learn alongside others of a similar age and experience level.
