Racing takes place Sundays from April to November and Friday evenings for a variety of types of keelboats and cruisers. They are handicapped either under IRC or PY depending upon the event and in order to ensure that there is good competitive racing a great deal of collaboration takes place between ourselves and the WMYC. Owners are encouraged to attend the Cruiser forum at the end of each year to help shape the programme for the following year. This ensures that the programme is able to incorporate new ideas and boat types.

Racing takes place out in the Blackwater estuary with starts being made from committee boat lines. Since the racing is a collaborative event between both the clubs the committee boat will fly the flag of the officiating club for that week. In order that both clubs remain vibrant on return to the shore crews are requested to congregate in the officiating club after the race.

On Friday evening in the summer months we have a unique event, which is a series under local handicap rules!! followed by a supper in the clubhouse at around 9pm. After a busy week at work this is a very nice way to unwind. Once again the details are in the programme. If you are not a keelboat owner but would like to crew on the boats it is very important that you get yourself known early in the season. The owners try to finalise their crews for the season as early as possible so you need to advertise your availability and experience. Contact the cruiser captain since he usually knows who is looking. There is also a Crew Wanted/Available page on the noticeboard section of this website (contact the Webmaster).Alternatively make your presence known at 6pm at the top of the hammerhead as helms are always looking for replacements for those crew stuck on the M25.

For a number of years a One Design Fleet of Sonatas has raced from Mersea and currently we have 6 competing on a regular basis.

We also run fun pursuit races ending in Heybridge for example where the serious racers the non serious racers and those just cruising enter the lock for the night and - well a good time is had by all.

We organise cruising events during the year going sometimes across the water and I don't mean to Bradwell or up the coast to explore The Walton Backwaters.

Whether you are cruising or racing please join us.
