DSC Coxswains Course
Free to DSC Club Members that will support both Wednesday and Weekend DSC Events.

A power boat course for DSC Club members to enable them to drive a support boat for any Dabchicks event. All participants will be expected to volunteer for a minimum of one weekend event in the coming 2008 season. This includes boat handling, mooring, anchoring and righting of capsized dinghies, involving both theory and practical sessions on the water.

Course duration one day.

No previous boating experience required. Minimum age 16 years

RYA Level 2
£200

Basic powerboat qualification with coastal endorsement widely recognised as a level of competence dealing more comprehensively with basic boat handling skills, safety, an introduction to charts and pilotage. RYA 2 is the normal minimum boat handling qualification requirement for organisations / clubs.

Course duration 2 days.

No previous boating experience required. Minimum age 13 years (qualification subject to adult supervision endorsement until 16).

Maximum group size 12.

RYA Safety Boat
£220

Safety boat qualification focussing on practical training involving dealing with capsized dinghies, canoes, windsurfers and sector search patterns etc.

Course duration 2 days.

Candidates must be experienced and practiced in powerboat handling and hold a Powerboat 2 certificate

RYA 4 Advanced
£220

This is a practical test of boat handling and pilotage. It includes an oral and written test on passage planning, chart work, tides, collision regulations, weather and safety. At least some of this test will take place in the dark

Course duration 2 days

Significant time on the water is required before this test should be taken. As a gauge you should be Day Skipper standard. You should hold a current VHF operators certificate and a recognised First Aid certificate minimum age 17

RYA 2 Direct assessment
£50

Achievement of RYA 2 qualification without undertaking the training course. Involving demonstration of practical skills and passing a written examination.

Duration of assessment 4 hours.

Candidates must experienced powerboat helms and are able to demonstrate a good understanding of the RYA 2 syllabus.

Combined ICC test & CEVNI exam (£70)

CEVNI exam only (£30)

ICC test only (£45)

Direct assessment of internationally recognised standards of powerboat handling and seamanship leading to attaining an ICC certificate for tidal water (International Certificate of Competence, recognised in Europe as basic requirement to helm any powerboat). Plus the CEVNI exam (required for European inland waterways).

Duration of assessment 4/5 hours.

Candidates must experienced powerboat helms and are able to demonstrate a good understanding of the syllabus.
